2025 FEATURED ARTIST

JACKIE SEIDELL

Jackie Seidell is an active member of the Guild of Quilters Contra Costa County and has been quilting for many, many years. She had a career as a teacher and taught Home Economics and Art Design at Clayton Valley High School. After retiring, she has taken many classes to expand her knowledge in every different type of quilting. She likes the challenge of learning a new technique or style and putting her own spin on it. She makes both traditional and art quilts.

Enjoy  the slideshow below of Jackie's award-winning quilts at GQCCC quilt shows since 2015, plus a few extras!

"Clematis" (2018) This quilt is an original design inspired by a photo I took of Clematis. I started it in a class with Jane Sassaman at Art Quilt Tahoe using Cherrywood and hand-dyed fabrics.
Blooms ala Benner (2022) I was inspired by Sue Brenner's Trellis quilt series. The quilt is made by layering many fused fabrics and finished with free motion quilting.
"Flower Kaleidoscope" - 2024 Judged Winner - Original Design - 2nd Place The layered construction technique for drawing, cutting, assembling, and arranging the flowers is a technique from Sue Benner.
"Gathering Garden" - 2023 Judged Winner - Appliqué - 2nd Place This quilt is appliqued and pieced. The fabric is 1850 reproduction cotton.
"Sizzle" - 2022 Judged Winner - Machine Quilted Sit-Down - 1st Place. Nine foundation paper-pieced blocks set into circles, combined with hand-appliqued borders and lots of quilting space.
"Kantha II" - 2021 Viewer's Choice - Best of Show - 2nd Place, 2021 Judged Winner - Original Design - 2nd Place, 2022 Judged Winner - Original Design - 1st Place. A 2020 lockdown project!
"Color My World" - 2022 Judged Winner - Pieced - 2nd Place. I like this quilt because of the bright colors and round shapes. Construction is foundation freezer paper piecing and free-motion quilting.
"Big Red" - 2019 Judged Winner - Pieced - 1st Place. This pattern is by Edyta Sitar and is the 2018 BOM for "The Quilt Show". The leaf and flower designs are done with machine blanket stitch.
"Baskets" - 2018 Viewer's Choice - Best of Show, 2018 Judged Winner - Mixed Techniques - 1st Place. Each basket was stitched and painted separately and then collaged together.
"Leaves" - 2017 Viewer's Choice - Hand Appliqué - 2nd Place. This quilt is adapted from a pattern in the book "Appliqué Outside the Lines" by Piece O'Cake Designs.
“My Liberated Log Cabin” - 2016 Viewer's Choice - Hand Quilted - 1st Place. This is an original design using hand-dyed Cherrywood fabrics.
“Cross and Crown” - 2016 Viewer's Choice - Modern - 1st Place. This quilt is a mix of a traditional block with a more modern look because of the fabric choice and quilting style.
“Tree of Life” - 2015 Viewer's Choice - Appliqué - 2nd Place. Many fabrics were used for the background using the no-ruler method. The pattern was designed by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins.
"Runner 4" by Jackie Seidell - 2024 Judged Winner - Creative Item - 2nd Place I wanted to use the African fabric I collected on a trip to Africa. The solids and circles made it come together.
